What is Golden Boba?

What is Golden Boba Made of?

Golden Boba is a type of tapioca pearl that has a soft and chewy texture, a strong flavor, and a beautiful golden color that is both visually appealing and delicious.

They are made from the starch of the cassava plant and are cooked until they're just the right amount of chewy.

What is Golden Boba?

What Does Golden Boba Taste Like?

Golden boba has a sweet taste like honey with the same chewy texture as black boba. Every pearl adds a rich, indulgent flavor to your drinks, making them irresistibly tasty.

How to Make Golden Boba at Home?

Step 1: Preparing Ingredients

  • Sugar (white or brown): 250 grams
  • Tapioca Starch: 200 grams
  • Water: 50 oz (for boiling boba)
  • Honey: 1 tablespoon (for soaking boba)

Step 2: Prepare the Caramel Syrup

Caramel base will give boba a signature golden hue and a hint of caramel flavor, making every bite (or sip) delightful.

Prepare the Caramel Syrup

Way to do:

  • Step 1: Mix 200 grams of sugar with 50ml of water in a pot.
  • Step 2: Turn the heat down to low and watch the sugar dissolve and transform into a beautiful amber color. Note that not stirring is a no-no during this process, as we don't want any sugar crystals to form.
  • Step 3: Let the sugar and water meld together slowly until you've got a syrup that looks like liquid gold.

Step 3: Make the Boba Dough

After finishing the caramel syrup, you continue to make the boba dough.

  • Step 1: Add 50 ounces of water to your amber caramel, then bring it to a boil.
  • Step 2: Grab a large bowl and pour in 200 grams of tapioca starch. Measure 5 oz of your boiling caramel water and slowly mix it into the tapioca starch. If the dough feels too sticky or too dry, you can adjust by adding a little more caramel water or tapioca starch until you get the right consistency. The goal is to create a smooth, non-sticky dough that you can easily shape with your hands.

Step 4: Shape the Boba Pearls

  • Step 1: Start by rolling your dough flat if you're going for the classic round pearls.
  • Step 2: Cut it into tiny pieces, each of which is a potential pearl.
  • Step 3: Take each piece and gently roll it between your hands to form perfect little balls

Here's a little trick to keep everything smooth: Sprinkle some dry tapioca starch over the dough pieces, the stickiness is at bay and makes it easier to work with.

If you like a bit of variety with stand pearls, you will want to keep the dough a tad thinner. Then stretch out a canvas of dough. Cut this canvas into slender strands like tiny ropes. Lightly dusting tapioca starch over these strands will ensure they don't turn into a sticky web.

Step 5: Cook your Golden Boba

  • Step 1: Boil your caramel water again and gently add your boba pearls or strands into the pot.
  • Step 2: Turn down the heat and let it simmer softly.
  • Step 3: Over the next 20 minutes, they'll start to dance around as they cook, eventually floating to the surface with a beautiful golden glow.
  • Step 4: After turning off the heat, sprinkle 50 grams of sugar and a tablespoon of honey in, stirring gently to combine.
  • Step 5: Cover the pot and let the boba soak in this sweet mixture for 20 to 30 minutes. Boba will soak up all the delicious flavors, ensuring that each bite is as tasty as it is chewy.

Step 6: Store Your Boba

How to store golden boba properly so it stays soft and delicious until you're ready to use it.

The answer is keeping golden boba warm in a thermal container or a rice cooker. This helps maintain their softness and ensures they remain just as tasty the next day.

Tips for Successful Golden Boba Pearls

Here are some tips to ensure your golden boba pearls turn out perfectly:

  • Use edible glitter: Make sure to use edible glitter specifically made for consumption. Do not use regular craft glitter as it is not safe to ingest.
  • Coat the pearls evenly: It's important to mix the edible glitter thoroughly with the boba pearls to ensure an even and sparkly coating.
  • Use a light-colored drink: Golden boba looks best in light-colored drinks, allowing the glitter to stand out. Darker drinks may mask the glitter.
  • Add the glitter after cooking the pearls: If you add the glitter while cooking the pearls, it may dissolve in the boiling water and not stick to the pearls.

What is the Difference Between Crystal Boba and Golden Boba?

The main difference between crystal boba and golden boba is their appearance. Crystal boba is clear and transparent, has a chewy texture, made from konjac or agar-agar, offering a more neutral taste. Golden boba is made from tapioca pearls and caramelized sugar, giving it a golden color and a sweet, caramel flavor.

What is the Difference Between Golden Boba and Tapioca Boba?

Golden boba and tapioca boba, also known as regular boba, are made from the same ingredients - tapioca starch, water, and sugar. However, golden boba has edible glitter mixed in, while tapioca boba does not. The glitter adds a fun and sparkly twist to golden boba, making it stand out from traditional boba.

Conclusion

Golden boba is a fun and unique addition to the boba tea world, adding a glittery and shiny twist to the classic drink. It has a similar taste and texture to traditional boba, but the addition of edible glitter makes it a fun and eye-catching option. With these tips and a little creativity, you can make your own golden boba at home and impress your friends with this trendy drink.
